Wuxi People's Hospital

Wuxi People's Hospital (Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University) is a tertiary Grade A modern comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, healthcare, and rehabilitation. Established in November 2007 through the integration of the former Wuxi First People's Hospital, Children's Hospital, and Wuxi Fifth People's Hospital, the hospital now covers 255 mu with a building area of 323,000 square meters, 1,889 open beds, and nearly 3,000 staff. In July 2020, the hospital was officially incorporated into the direct affiliated hospital management system of Nanjing Medical University. The hospital houses multiple functional zones including outpatient services, medical technology examination, inpatient wards, emergency surgery center, children's hospital, cardiopulmonary diagnosis and treatment center, and special clinic center, providing comprehensive medical services. The hospital has achieved fruitful results in discipline construction, with one provincial clinical diagnosis and treatment center (Lung Transplant Diagnosis and Treatment Center), one provincial medical innovation center, five provincial clinical key disciplines, and 20 provincial clinical key specialties. In 2024, the hospital completed 2.7 million outpatient and emergency visits and 94,000 discharges. The hospital's Lung Transplant Diagnosis and Treatment Center is particularly outstanding, being one of the three largest lung transplant centers globally, ranking in the top three worldwide for transplant volume, averaging 150 lung transplant cases annually in recent years, and completing multiple world-first surgeries including the world's first lung transplant after cardiac repair in a postpartum patient and the world's first lung transplant in a COVID-19 patient. The hospital is the only medical institution in Jiangsu Province with qualifications for lung, kidney, and liver transplants. The hospital serves as the National Lung Transplant Quality Control Center, National Lung Transplant Data Registration Unit, Leader Unit of the Lung Transplant Group of the Chinese Medical Association Organ Transplant Branch, Leader Unit of the China Lung Transplant Alliance, and National Lung Transplant Physician Training Base, enjoying high reputation in the organ transplant field. For international medical services, the hospital has established a Special Clinic Center (T Zone) providing high-end medical services, and maintains close cooperation with internationally renowned hospitals such as Toronto General Hospital in Canada, Mayo Clinic in the United States, and Tokyo Medical University Hospital in Japan. The hospital received A+ rating for three consecutive years in the 2021-2023 National Tertiary Public Hospital Performance Assessment and was selected as a provincial pilot unit for high-quality development of public hospitals in 2023.
