About the Hospital
The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University was founded in 1883 (the ninth year of Qing Emperor Guangxu's reign) and is one of the first tertiary Grade A hospitals approved by the Ministry of Health. It is a provincial key hospital directly under the Jiangsu Health Commission and serves as the medical guidance center for southern Jiangsu. The hospital possesses 2 national key disciplines (Hematology and Orthopedics), 8 national key clinical specialties, 5 national key clinical specialty construction projects, and 34 provincial key clinical specialties, with one province-ministry co-constructed State Key Laboratory and one Ministry of Health Key Laboratory, and one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It achieved A++ rating in the 2023 Fudan University China Hospital Rankings. It has ranked first in the Top 100 Prefecture-level City Hospitals competitiveness ranking for six consecutive years, consistently placed in the top 50 of Fudan University's China Best Hospital Rankings, and ranked 33rd in the 2018 China Top Hospital Competitiveness Ranking. With 3,500 approved beds (over 3,000 operational) across two campuses (Shizijie Campus and Pingjiang New City General Campus, Phase II opened November 26, 2024), the hospital has established inter-hospital cooperative relationships with over 30 international universities and hospitals in the United States, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Australia and other countries, invited over 100 foreign experts for guidance and lectures, and operates a senior special needs outpatient clinic serving foreign nationals. As an affiliated hospital of Soochow University, it undertakes doctoral and master's degree student training and resident physician standardized training, and has been honored as a National Civilized Unit and National Hospital Culture Construction Advanced Collective.
