About the Hospital
Founded in 1892 as one of China's earliest Western medicine hospitals, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital has evolved over 130 years into a large research-oriented tertiary Grade A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research. As the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, it serves as a pilot hospital for high-quality development of public hospitals and a high-level hospital construction unit in Jiangsu Province. The hospital operates four campuses—Main Campus, North Campus, Jiangbei Campus, and Southern Campus—with over 4,600 open beds and more than 6,400 staff members. It houses 15 national clinical key specialties and 33 provincial clinical key specialties spanning orthopedics, general surgery, gastroenterology, rheumatology, endocrinology, neurology, and cardiology. With a highly qualified medical team, the hospital excels particularly in rheumatology, reproductive medicine, and sports medicine & adult reconstructive surgery. It is the first medical institution in China to be certified as an International Advanced Stroke Center by the World Stroke Organization. In international medical cooperation, the hospital has established sister hospital relationships with 21 top international institutions including Johns Hopkins University, University of Chicago Medicine, and Harvard Medical School across 13 countries on five continents, hosting Global Vision Week for five consecutive years and sending over 50 staff members annually for overseas training. In the national performance monitoring of tertiary public hospitals, it has consistently ranked among the top tier for seven consecutive years with A++ rating (highest level), and achieved A+++ in the Fudan 2023 China Hospital Comprehensive Rankings, demonstrating its leading position and excellence in the healthcare industry.
