About the Hospital
Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (also known as "Xiamen Heart Center", abbreviated as "XMCH") was established in 2001 as a premier medical brand created by the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee and Government. It is the only public tertiary A cardiovascular specialty hospital in Fujian Province. The hospital has been recognized as a National Regional Medical Center for Cardiovascular Disease jointly established by the National Health Commission and Fujian Provincial Government, and a branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases. It bears the responsibility of diagnosing and treating complex, critical cardiovascular diseases in the region, with over 70% of patients coming from outside Xiamen. The Department of Cardiology is a National Clinical Key Specialty, and Cardiac Surgery is a Fujian Provincial Clinical Key Specialty. The hospital is equipped with 600 beds, 10 interventional catheterization rooms (including 2 hybrid operating rooms), and 6 laminar flow cardiac surgery operating rooms, featuring world-class equipment including Asia's first dedicated cardiovascular CT. It serves over 290,000 patients annually and completes more than 21,500 cardiac surgeries. In June 2024, the International Medical Center was officially inaugurated, establishing the BRICS Cardiovascular Health Innovation Center and launching the "Heart Sapling Visiting Scholar Program" to train international cardiovascular physicians, receiving visitors from over 50 countries annually. As one of the first national training bases for cardiovascular specialists, a national postdoctoral research workstation, and a Ministry of Health training base for coronary heart disease and arrhythmia interventional diagnosis and treatment, the hospital leads the nation in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) of mitral and tricuspid valves, heart transplantation, and artificial heart implantation. It has performed the first minimally invasive left ventricular volume reduction surgery (Revivent TC) outside Europe and the first transapical AMEND mitral annuloplasty in the Asia-Pacific region, earning recognition as "China's Most Beautiful Hospital" and the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize.
