About the Hospital
Fujian Provincial Hospital (also known as Fuzhou University Affiliated Provincial Hospital) was founded in 1937 with funds donated by overseas Chinese philanthropist Mr. Hu Wenhu, making it one of the earliest public hospitals established in Fujian Province. As the largest tertiary A comprehensive hospital directly under the Fujian Provincial Health Commission, it adheres to the motto "Excellence in Medical Skills, Sincerity in Medical Ethics." After more than 80 years of development, the hospital has become the center for clinical diagnosis and treatment, medical research, medical education, and preventive healthcare in the province. In 2022, it initiated a "two campuses" development pattern, and in 2024, it was transferred to Fuzhou University. The two campuses cover an area of 151,000 square meters with a building area of 251,000 square meters, 3,005 authorized beds, 53 clinical departments, and 11 medical technology departments. The hospital has five national clinical key specialties including Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Specialized Nursing, Cardiac and Great Vascular Surgery, and General Chinese Medicine, as well as five provincial research institutes covering cardiovascular diseases, emergency medicine, geriatrics, gastroenterology, and nuclear medicine. With over 3,600 employees, the hospital handles approximately 2.8 million outpatient and emergency visits, 125,000 discharges, and 60,000 surgeries annually. The International Medical Examination Department, a key window for international services, has been conducting immigration medical examinations since 1992. It is one of only four institutions in China authorized to perform U.S. immigration medical examinations (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Fuzhou), and the sole facility in Fujian Province providing pre-visa medical examinations and vaccination services for the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Spain, and other countries, serving over 20,000 examinations annually. It obtained ISO9001 quality management system certification in 2009 and has received high praise from the U.S. CDC and various immigration authorities during unannounced inspections. The hospital is also among the first batch of national demonstration bases for standardized residency training, with 6 doctoral programs, 27 master's programs, and 21 national standardized residency training bases. On the 70th anniversary of its founding, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter praising the hospital as a renowned institution with a glorious tradition and influence both within and outside the province.
