About the Hospital
Xiangya Hospital of Central South University is a comprehensive tertiary Grade-A hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research. As a hospital directly under the National Health Commission, it is also the oldest comprehensive hospital in Hunan Province. Founded in 1906 as the Yali Hospital and renamed Xiangya Hospital in 1914, the "Xiangya" brand was born, acclaimed as "Southern Xiangya" alongside "Northern PUMCH." Over a century, the hospital has developed the Xiangya spirit of "Rigor, Truth-seeking, Unity, and Innovation." Located at 87 Xiangya Road, Kaifu District, Changsha, with over 3,500 beds, 40+ clinical departments, and 5,000+ employees, Xiangya Hospital excels in Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Organ Transplantation, with strong capabilities in Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics. The International Medical Department, established in July 2015 in cooperation with UPMC (USA), is Hunan's first international medical center, with 36 beds offering full English service, multilingual accompaniment, international insurance direct billing, and international remote consultation services in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center and other world-renowned institutions. As the clinical college of Central South University, it trains doctoral and master's students with over 3 million annual outpatient visits. Consistently ranked among the top in Fudan Hospital Rankings, the hospital received 1,761 foreign patient visits in 2025, six times that of 2024, and has been awarded National Civilized Unit and National May 1st Labor Medal honors.
