Chenzhou First People's Hospital was founded in 1907 and is a national public tertiary Grade-A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, emergency services, scientific research, teaching, rehabilitation, healthcare, and medical-nursing combination. The hospital covers an area of 520 mu with a building area of 603,000 square meters, has 3,771 beds, 127 clinical departments, and 11 medical technology departments. It has 4,033 employees, including 1,287 senior experts. The hospital implements a multi-campus management system with five medical areas: Central Hospital, South Hospital (Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital), North Hospital (Children's Hospital), West Hospital (Rehabilitation Hospital), and East Hospital (Tumor Hospital), plus the City Health and Elderly Care Center, forming a development pattern of "one body, four wheels, one center." In the 2023 national public hospital performance assessment, it ranked A+ level, first among prefecture-level hospitals in Hunan Province. The hospital has 2 national clinical key specialty construction projects, 2 cultivation projects, and 35 provincial clinical key specialties. The Department of Critical Care Medicine is the earliest established municipal-level critical care medicine department in Hunan Province. The Neurology Department is a national clinical key specialty construction project. The North Hospital Children's Hospital is the only specialized children's medical and healthcare institution in southern Hunan. The hospital upholds the mission of "saving lives and promoting health" and adheres to the service philosophy of "doing everything well with heart to satisfy every patient." It has received honors including National Trustworthy Model Hospital, National May 1st Labor Medal, and National Worker Pioneer. In 2024, the hospital was approved as a Hunan Provincial Public Hospital High-Quality Development Demonstration Hospital.
