About the Hospital
Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital is located in Wanzhou District, Chongqing, at the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir area. As a tertiary Grade A hospital directly affiliated with Chongqing University under the Ministry of Education, it was founded in 1929 and has evolved through several name changes. The hospital integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, preventive healthcare, public health, and emergency rescue services, covering an area of 400 mu (approximately 26.7 hectares) with a building area of 450,000 square meters and 3,150 open beds (including 650 psychiatric beds). It serves a population of 23 million across 23 districts and counties in Chongqing, Hubei, Sichuan, and Shaanxi provinces. The hospital operates one main campus and four branch campuses (Pinghu, Baian, Jiangnan, and Tiefengshan), along with specialized facilities for oncology, emergency care, stomatology, and traditional Chinese medicine. In July 2023, the hospital established the Boao International Medical Department in Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, featuring 76 beds and a 3,000-square-meter GMP-certified laboratory. This facility provides high-end medical services, precision tumor treatment, and access to cutting-edge international drugs. The hospital has established a Nobel Prize Workstation in collaboration with Ferenc Krausz, the 2023 Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, with Phase I operations starting on October 31, 2025. The hospital achieved an A+ rating in the 2024 tertiary public hospital performance evaluation and ranked 98th in the 2024 Elite Hospital Top 100 Benchmark Hospitals, with both outpatient volume and surgery volume ranking among China's top 100 hospitals.
