Southwest Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University) is a large comprehensive modern tertiary Grade A hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research. Founded in 1929 with 2,900 authorized beds, it is among the first batch of tertiary Grade A hospitals in China. The hospital upholds the motto of "Loyalty, Excellence, Innovation, and Dedication" and holds a prestigious position in the military healthcare system. The Burn Research Institute, established in 1958 from just 6 beds, has ranked first in the Fudan University China Hospital Specialty Reputation Ranking for 10 consecutive years and is internationally acclaimed as "the world leader in burn care and research." In 2003, the burn department was awarded the honorary title of "Model Military Medical Burn Department" by the Central Military Commission, with the inscription personally written by President Jiang Zemin—the only clinical department in the nation to receive this honor. With a treatment success rate of 99% and social reintegration rate of 98.68%, the hospital also possesses national key disciplines including cardiology, infectious diseases, general surgery, orthopedics, and gastroenterology.
