About the Hospital
Tianjin University Central Hospital (formerly Tianjin Third Central Hospital/Tianjin Hepatobiliary Hospital) is a large Grade A tertiary comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and prevention. In December 2024, through a joint initiative between Tianjin Health Commission and Tianjin University, it officially became a directly affiliated hospital of Tianjin University. Located at 83 Jintang Road, Hedong District, Tianjin, with 1,100 open beds, the hospital has formed a "one hospital, three campuses" pattern covering Hedong, Dongli, and Hebei districts. Upon completion of the Dongli campus in 2025, the total bed capacity will reach 2,650. The hospital features Hepatobiliary Surgery as its flagship specialty, established in 1978 and developed over more than four decades from 28 beds to 147 beds currently. Approved as the "Hepatobiliary Disease Research Office" by Tianjin Health Bureau in 1979 and designated as a key discipline of Tianjin in 1996, it is now one of the larger hepatobiliary surgery departments in Tianjin. The department has a professional medical team of 25 doctors, including 5 chief physicians and 6 associate chief physicians, with 20 holding master's or doctoral degrees and 2 experts receiving government special allowances, mainly treating hepatobiliary and pancreatic benign and malignant tumors, portal hypertension, hypersplenism, and cholelithiasis. Laparoscopic minimally invasive technology is a major feature, including advanced procedures such as laparoscopic liver resection and laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, with liver cancer thermal ablation treatment reaching advanced levels in China. The hospital has National Clinical Key Specialties in Nursing and Critical Care Medicine, with the latter serving as Tianjin's ECMO Treatment and Training Base. Beyond Hepatobiliary Surgery, the hospital also has advantageous departments including Gastroenterology (ERCP technology), Cardiology Center, Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Spinal Surgery, and Clinical Nutrition. The hospital's personalized dietary management model is known as the "Second Pharmacy," providing customized dietary orders based on patient conditions. With comprehensive strength ranking among the top comprehensive hospitals in Tianjin, it has received honors including National Civilized Unit and National Trustworthy Hospital for the People. In 2018, it was approved as one of the first national pilot hospitals for tumor multidisciplinary treatment, and in March 2025, the Intelligent Auditory Center was established.
