About the Hospital
Chengdu Second People's Hospital, founded in 1892 by Canadian Christian medical missionaries, was originally named Gospel Hospital, later known as Sichuan Red Cross Gospel Hospital and Renji Hospital. It marks the origin of Western medicine in Sichuan, the birthplace of the Red Cross movement in Sichuan, and the first Red Cross hospital in the region, also serving as the predecessor of West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The hospital is now a national Grade-A tertiary comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, healthcare, and rehabilitation, serving as the affiliated hospital of Chengdu Medical College and non-direct affiliated hospital of Zunyi Medical University. The hospital operates Qingyun Campus, Longtan Campus, and Caoshi Branch, with 2,600 authorized beds and nearly 3,600 staff members including nearly 600 with senior professional titles, 250 doctors, and 1,200 master's degree holders. It has 37 clinical departments, 2 National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects, 9 Sichuan Provincial Key Medical Disciplines, and 33 Chengdu Key Medical Disciplines. Dermatology is a National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Project, Burn and Plastic Surgery supports the Chengdu Burn Research Institute, and Cardiovascular Medicine hosts National Chest Pain Center, Heart Failure Center, and Atrial Fibrillation Center. The hospital has an International Medical Department and Foreign Patient Clinic, with multilingual volunteer teams providing services in English, French, and Russian. It has established international cooperation networks with VIA University College (Denmark), Assuta Medical Center (Israel), and Meiji Pharmaceutical University (Japan). As a National Standardized Residency Training Base and Sichuan Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base, the hospital has received honors including National Civilized Unit and National Reform and Innovation Hospital.
