Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, founded in 1907 as the General Hospital of the Chinese Red Cross Society, is a tertiary A-level comprehensive hospital designated by the National Health Commission, affiliated with Fudan University, and named by the Chinese Red Cross Society. It is one of the earliest medical institutions in China to provide international medical services. The International Medical Center, established in 1989, has served over 1 million patients from more than 100 countries and regions, serving as the designated medical institution for 10 consulates general in Shanghai including the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada. The hospital is renowned nationwide for its leading specialties including Neurosurgery (ranked first in Fudan specialty rankings), Hand Surgery, Infectious Diseases, and Dermatology, with its overall ranking consistently in the national top 10. The hospital operates the headquarters campus, Hongqiao campus, and North campus, with 12 National Clinical Key Specialties and multiple doctoral degree programs. The International Medical Center features 25 single rooms and 23 independent consultation rooms, maintains direct billing partnerships with over 30 insurance companies, and was ranked first among Shanghai's first batch of designated pilot units for international medical tourism in public hospitals, providing comprehensive services including "general + specialty" multidisciplinary joint diagnosis, 24-hour emergency services, and cross-border medical transport.
