Shanghai General Hospital, founded on March 1, 1864 as "Shantung Hospital" (later "Gongji Hospital"), is one of China's earliest comprehensive century-old hospitals, now a large tertiary A-level comprehensive hospital affiliated with the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, integrating medical care, teaching, and research. The hospital is renowned nationwide for its two National Clinical Key Specialties: Ophthalmology and Urology, holding national leadership in fundus disease diagnosis and minimally invasive urological surgery. Operating Northern Hongkou Campus and Southern Songjiang Campus with comprehensive clinical departments, the hospital undertakes important medical treatment responsibilities for Shanghai.
