About the Hospital
Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, established in 1947, is a tertiary A-level maternity and infant specialty hospital directly under the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, affectionately known as "Shanghai's Big Cradle," embodying a profound spirit of humanistic care. As the institution housing the National Clinical Key Specialty of Obstetrics, the hospital also serves as the National Perinatal Health Care Featured Base and the Shanghai Obstetric Quality Control Center, occupying a pivotal position in the industry. The hospital operates two campuses—the East Campus in Pudong and the West Campus in Jing'an—offering a complete maternity and infant specialty system including Obstetrics, Gynecology, Neonatology, Reproductive Medicine, Prenatal Diagnosis Center, and Fetal Medicine. Obstetrics leads the nation with extensive experience in high-risk obstetrics, achieving over 25,000 annual deliveries—one in five Shanghai newborns is born here. As an early provider of international medical services among maternity and infant specialty hospitals, the International Medical Department covers both campuses and has launched the "Golden Key Perinatal Cycle Health Management" program, adopting international standard concepts encompassing privacy protection, commercial insurance payment, and cultural sensitivity, providing comprehensive care from preconception through postpartum for international expectant mothers and families.
