About the Hospital
Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University was founded in 1947, originally as the 10th Rear Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In 1978, it relocated to Guangzhou and became affiliated with the First Military Medical University, known internally as the Second Affiliated Hospital and externally as Zhujiang Hospital. It moved to its current site in 1981 and officially opened in 1983. In 1994, it was among the first hospitals to be designated as a Grade A tertiary hospital. In August 2004, it was transferred from the military to Guangdong Province. The hospital has been rated A+ in the national performance assessment of tertiary public hospitals for six consecutive years. The hospital covers 98,000 square meters with a total floor area of 315,000 square meters, operates 2,000 beds, and has 89 professional departments and 35 teaching and research departments. Pediatrics and Neurosurgery are National Clinical Key Specialties, Orthopedics is a National Key Cultivation Discipline, and the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a Key Discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a total of 23 national and provincial clinical key specialties. The Yiqiao Building Special Medical Service Center (International Medical Center) was established in 1985, being one of the earliest windows in China to provide medical services to foreign patients. It has served over 300,000 patients from more than 50 countries and regions, providing personalized high-end medical services and hotel-style ward management.
