Shenzhen People's Hospital

Shenzhen People's Hospital is the largest public comprehensive tertiary grade-A hospital in Shenzhen. Originally established as Bao'an County Health Center in 1946, the hospital underwent significant transformations including its renaming after the 1979 establishment of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, becoming Shenzhen's first Grade 3A hospital in 1994, and becoming the First Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology in 2018. Positioned as a regional medical center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the hospital undertakes core functions including emergency and critical care, diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases, and medical education and research. It is a national key clinical specialty construction unit, with Geriatrics, Critical Care Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, General Surgery, and Traditional Chinese Medicine recognized as national key clinical specialties. Upholding the medical spirit of "Benevolent Heart and Skillful Hands, Saving Lives" and practicing the service philosophy of "Patient-Centered, Quality-Focused," the hospital has been rated A+ for five consecutive years in the National Performance Assessment of Tertiary Public Hospitals, with comprehensive strength ranking among the top 100 nationwide, and was selected as one of the first nine high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province in 2018. The hospital covers 132,700 square meters with a floor area of 477,400 square meters and operates 3,060 beds (excluding Bao'an Hospital under construction) across six campuses: Inpatient Department (Headquarters), First Outpatient Department, Longhua Branch, Bantian Campus, Dapeng Translational Medicine Innovation Center, and Bao'an Hospital (under construction). It has 47 clinical departments and 10 medical technology departments covering all clinical specialties, with 6 national key clinical specialties, 17 Guangdong provincial key clinical specialties, and 17 Shenzhen municipal key medical specialties. The hospital employs 5,284 staff members, including more than 1,000 senior professionals and over 200 doctoral and master's supervisors. Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is a national key clinical specialty; Geriatrics and Critical Care Medicine are the oldest and largest in Shenzhen; Chest Surgery is the largest in Shenzhen; Minimally Invasive Surgery is mature and experienced; and Organ Transplantation has relevant qualifications. As one of the first batch of international medical service pilot hospitals in Guangdong Province, the hospital has long provided medical services to foreign nationals and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. In January 2026, the International Medical Department was officially inaugurated with a floor area of 24,000 square meters, featuring over 30 medical staff with overseas study backgrounds proficient in English, Cantonese, and other languages, cooperating with multiple high-end medical insurance companies at home and abroad to provide direct billing services. As the First Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology and the Second Clinical Medical College of Jinan University, the hospital undertakes multi-level medical talent training for undergraduates, graduate students, and residents, training hundreds of medical professionals annually. Annual outpatient and emergency visits exceed 4 million, annual discharged patients exceed 150,000, and annual surgeries exceed 80,000, with comprehensive service capacity ranking first in Shenzhen.
