Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University

Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University was founded in 1941 as the Rear Hospital of the Third Division of the New Fourth Army. It is the First Affiliated Hospital and First Clinical Medical College of Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University), serving as a comprehensive tertiary grade-A hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and preventive healthcare. In 2004, it was transferred from the military to Guangdong Province. In the 2016 Fudan University China Best Hospital Rankings, it ranked 15th. The hospital covers 203,000 square meters with a floor area of 458,000 square meters, has 2,225 beds, and medical equipment worth nearly 1.4 billion yuan. It houses the State Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Research and the National Clinical Research Center for Chronic Kidney Diseases, with 5 national key disciplines, 17 national key clinical specialties, 3 national key clinical specialty construction projects, and 31 Guangdong provincial key clinical specialties. The hospital has one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and two winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The Huiqiao Medical Center, established in 1979, is the earliest and largest foreign-related special medical service institution in China, having served over 130,000 patients from 91 countries and regions. In 1995, it was awarded the honorary title of "Model Medical Huiqiao Department" by the Central Military Commission. In 1996, it was approved as the only "Foreign Medical Center" in the entire military. The new Huiqiao building was put into operation in 2020, featuring 188 beds, 6 independent operating rooms, and 6 ICU wards, with cooperation agreements signed with over a dozen international medical insurance companies.
