About the Hospital
The First Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1964. It is a comprehensive Grade 3A TCM hospital integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, prevention, and healthcare, recognized as a National Regional Medical Center Construction Output Hospital and National TCM Clinical Research Base. As one of China's first batch of Grade 3A TCM hospitals, a National Demonstration TCM Hospital, and among the first Guangdong Provincial Famous TCM Hospitals, the hospital undertakes vital national-level TCM clinical research and technical guidance functions. The hospital has achieved remarkable results in international services: during the 2003 SARS outbreak, as the lead unit of the Guangdong Provincial TCM SARS Treatment Expert Group, it successfully treated 70 confirmed patients using integrated Chinese-Western medicine, achieving "zero mortality, zero hospital infection" outstanding results. The treatment protocol was promoted to Hong Kong and Taiwan regions, with WHO experts highly praising TCM efficacy. In 1994, the hospital's free treatment of military wife Han Suyun became nationally renowned, receiving praise from President Jiang Zemin and other leaders. Adhering to the spirit of "Sincerity in Saving Lives, Inheritance and Innovation," the hospital enjoys a high reputation among TCM medical institutions nationwide. TCM Gynecology and TCM Orthopedics are national key disciplines, with orthopedics ranking 9th nationwide in 2007, leading among TCM hospitals across the country. The hospital has 2,200 approved beds, over 3,500 employees, covering an area of 50,900 m² with a building area of 185,500 m². As of May 2025, the hospital comprises the main campus, Chongqing Hospital (Fourth Batch National Regional Medical Center), Baiyun Hospital, Nanshan Hospital, Huadu Hospital, Shenshan Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital, and Yuexi Hospital, with two outpatient departments: the Second Outpatient Department and Xianlie East Outpatient Department. The hospital holds 7 national key disciplines, 8 National Administration of TCM key disciplines, 7 national TCM key specialties, and 17 Guangdong provincial key specialties, covering key areas including TCM gynecology, TCM orthopedics, TCM oncology, spleen and stomach diseases, acupuncture, ENT, and cardiovascular diseases. As the First Clinical Medical College of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, the hospital undertakes over 13,000 teaching hours annually and manages more than 3,500 students, making it one of the largest TCM clinical teaching hospitals in South China and nationwide. It is also a National Drug Clinical Trial Base, training doctoral and master's students. The International Health Center provides TCM specialty services for foreign nationals and actively conducts international exchange programs. The hospital has received numerous honors including National First Batch Grade 3A TCM Hospital, National Demonstration TCM Hospital, National Health System Advanced Collective, National Professional Ethics Advanced Unit, Guangdong Provincial Civilized Unit, 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Designated Hospital, 2024 Health Communication Famous Doctor Team Gold Award, and 2025 Health Science Pioneer Institution.
