About the Hospital
Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center (abbreviated as "Guangzhou Women and Children's Center") is a National Children's Medical Center, a second batch National Regional Medical Center construction output unit, and a National Public Hospital Party Building Demonstration Hospital. It was established through the integration of the former Guangzhou Children's Hospital, Guangzhou Maternity and Infant Hospital, Guangzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, and Guangzhou Population and Family Planning Technical Service Guidance Institute. As the leading institution for women and children's healthcare in Central South China, the center consistently ranks first in comprehensive strength in the region. In 2025, the center recorded 4.89 million outpatient and emergency visits, 167,000 discharges, 120,000 surgeries, and 30,000 deliveries. The center possesses a comprehensive specialty system with strong technical capabilities, holding 8 national key clinical specialties, 5 national characteristic healthcare specialties, and 13 provincial key clinical specialties. It is a national pilot unit for integrated management of fetal heart disease and maternal-fetal medicine, and a national-level multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment unit for maternal and obstetric sub-specialties. In core medical technologies, the center has achieved remarkable results: since obtaining heart organ transplantation qualifications in 2023, it has completed 22 pediatric heart transplants, ranking first among national children's specialty hospitals; Da Vinci robotic surgery covers over 50 disease types with nearly 2,000 cumulative cases; annual hematopoietic stem cell transplantation remains stable at 100 cases, and ECMO treatment exceeds 40 cases annually. Scientific innovation is a strong engine for the center's development. It has secured 338 National Natural Science Foundation projects, ranking first among similar specialty hospitals nationwide for 10 consecutive years; obtained 7 national-level major research projects and 6 provincial science and technology awards; published 928 SCI papers in the past 3 years with a total impact factor of 4,481, with research results published in top international journals including Nature. In education, the center established a School of Pediatrics依托广州医科大学, with the pediatrics major selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, ranking 4th nationwide in 2024. The postdoctoral research workstation has independent recruitment qualifications, with 347 master's student supervisors and 70 doctoral student supervisors. As a National Health Commission "Belt and Road" Maternal and Child Health Demonstration Training Base, the center maintains deep cooperation with 15 top international medical institutions including the University of Birmingham (UK) and Boston Children's Hospital (USA). It has an International Medical Center, with weekend outpatient services fully operational since May 2026, providing specialized medical services for patients from Hong Kong, Macao, and abroad.
