Guangzhou First People's Hospital (Guangzhou Digestive Diseases Center) was founded in 1899, a public tertiary grade-A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, prevention, healthcare, and rehabilitation. It is among the first batch of Grade 3A hospitals in Guangdong Province, undertaking provincial regional medical center functions, and was among the first batch of hospitals to pass International Hospital Accreditation in 2024. It holds the name "Guangzhou Digestive Diseases Center" as the lead unit of the Guangzhou Digestive Diseases Specialty Alliance. After 126 years of development, it became one of the first Grade 3A hospitals in Guangdong Province in 1993, was designated as the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in 1997, added "Guangzhou Digestive Diseases Center" in 2013, and became the Second Hospital Affiliated to South China University of Technology in 2017.
