About the Hospital
Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, founded in 1955, is a Grade III-A traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital directly under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As one of the first national-level large public TCM hospitals established after the founding of New China, it serves as a pilot unit for the National TCM Medical Center and a leading output unit for National Regional Medical Centers. The hospital undertakes national-level functions as the National TCM Cancer Medical Center, TCM Diabetes Specialized Center, and TCM Anorectal Disease Specialized Center. With 70 years of international service history, the hospital has established long-term cooperative relationships with internationally renowned medical institutions including Mayo Clinic and the US National Cancer Institute, and in 2023, spearheaded the establishment of the International Medical Service Alliance. At its founding, Premier Zhou Enlai personally inscribed the motto "Carry forward the motherland's medical heritage to serve socialist construction," laying a profound cultural foundation. The hospital upholds the spirit of "Guang'an Guangbo, Zhijing Zhicheng" (Broad and Extensive, Supreme Sincerity), serving as a pacesetter among national TCM hospitals and demonstrating leadership in public hospital reform. The hospital currently operates two campuses—the main campus and the South Campus—with a total construction area of over 151,000 square meters. The main campus houses 35 clinical departments and 9 medical technology departments. The hospital has over 1,600 staff members, including more than 400 with senior professional titles, among them 3 National TCM Masters, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Famous TCM Doctor, and 13 Capital Famous TCM Doctors. The hospital possesses 6 National Clinical Key Specialties, 16 National Administration of TCM Key Specialties, and 12 Key Disciplines, holding a leading position nationwide in TCM oncology, TCM endocrinology, TCM cardiology, TCM anorectal diseases, and acupuncture. The hospital offers special needs outpatient services, maintains an English website and a government-funded TCM English hotline, providing convenient TCM information services for international patients. As a teaching hospital for Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Peking Union Medical College, and Capital Medical University, the hospital has cultivated numerous TCM talents, training a total of 223 TCM backbone successors. The hospital's annual outpatient visits exceed 5.2 million, consistently ranking first among TCM hospitals in Beijing. The hospital has received numerous national honors including the National May 1 Labor Certificate, National Civilized Unit, and National Advanced Collective in COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
