Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University

Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, established in 1946 (with roots tracing back to the Japanese Dojin-kai Hospital Second Branch founded in 1938), serves as one of the main institutions of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (Beijing) and undertakes critical national responsibilities for major infectious disease prevention and emergency response to public health crises. As one of China's earliest institutions providing international medical services, the hospital's International Medical Department was founded in 1975, delivering premium healthcare to senior officials, foreign dignitaries, and VIP patients. The hospital adheres to the principle of "combining routine and emergency care" and follows a development path of "specialized features with comprehensive growth," maintaining a leading position in infectious disease diagnosis and treatment nationwide. Operating at its Chaoyang campus with a total construction area of approximately 75,000 square meters, the hospital has 600 authorized beds and a staff of 1,550. It features specialized centers including the Liver Disease Center, Infectious Diseases Center, AIDS Center, and Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Center, with five national key clinical specialties including Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Cardiology. The International Medical Department offers 26 beds in single rooms, suites, and double rooms, admitting over 800 inpatients annually with 18,000 outpatient visits. As an affiliated hospital of Capital Medical University, it undertakes undergraduate and graduate training as well as resident standardized training, with 5 doctoral supervisors and 5 master's supervisors. The hospital has received multiple awards including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and Beijing Science and Technology Award, and was honored as a Beijing Model Collective in 2020 and Beijing Winter Olympics Advanced Collective in 2022. An expansion project launched in October 2025 is expected to increase total floor area to 174,000 square meters and beds to 1,000 by late 2029.
