About the Hospital
The Capital Institute of Pediatrics Affiliated Children's Hospital, founded on July 1, 1958, is the first pediatric medical research institute in New China, established by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Its first director, Academician Zhu Futang, is known as the "Father of Chinese Pediatrics." The affiliated children's hospital was formally established on July 1, 1986, and on April 2, 2025, it was officially renamed Capital Medical University Affiliated Capital Children's Medical Center. As a National Children's Medical Center, the hospital undertakes important national functions in pediatric medical care, research, education, and preventive health services. The hospital has established remote consultation mechanisms with internationally renowned medical institutions including Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Medical School. The hospital upholds the motto of "Compassion, Rigor, Truth-seeking, Innovation," achieving remarkable accomplishments in pediatric healthcare as one of China's top children's hospitals. The hospital currently operates the Ritan Campus (main campus) at No. 2 Yaba Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, and a Tongzhou Campus under construction. The main campus covers an area of 28,815 square meters with a building area of over 100,000 square meters, 400 approved beds and 600 open beds, housing 39 clinical departments and 7 medical technology departments. The hospital has over 1,100 staff members, with professional and technical personnel accounting for 84%, including 126 with senior professional titles, 7 national and municipal-level experts with outstanding contributions, and 22 experts enjoying special government allowances. The hospital possesses 2 National Clinical Key Specialties in Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, holding a leading position nationwide in pediatric respiratory diseases, neonatal care, and pediatric minimally invasive surgery. The hospital offers special needs outpatient services with self-determined pricing, providing quality medical services for families with special needs. As the Second Pediatric Medical College of Capital Medical University, a doctoral and master's training site of Peking Union Medical College and Peking University Health Science Center, the hospital has trained numerous pediatric talents, with over 300 doctoral and master's graduates. The hospital has received numerous national honors including National Children's Medical Center, National Neonatal Health Specialty Construction Unit, and National Baby-Friendly Hospital.
