Datong Fifth People's Hospital (Datong Central Hospital) is a Shanxi Provincial Regional Medical Center and a tertiary Grade-A general hospital, founded in 1952. The Yudong New Campus covers 329 mu with a first-phase building area of 188,600 square meters, 1,545 authorized beds (designed for 2,500), 38 international-standard operating rooms, and 32 ICU beds. The hospital employs 1,853 staff members, including 336 with senior professional titles. It has established a strategic partnership with the Massachusetts Medical Group (USA) and is the first medical institution in the Jinbei region to launch air medical rescue services, equipped with a dedicated rescue helicopter. The hospital boasts Shanxi Province's first fourth-generation da Vinci surgical robot, with minimally invasive surgery growing at 30% annually over the past three years. It holds 2 provincial key disciplines, 5 provincial key clinical specialties, 28 municipal key construction disciplines, and 5 academician workstations, serving a population of over 10 million across Shanxi, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia.
