Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital is a comprehensive tertiary Grade-A hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research, and the only university-affiliated teaching hospital directly under a higher education institution in Qinghai Province. Located at No. 29 Tongren Road, Chengxi District, Xining City, Qinghai Province, the hospital operates two campuses (Tongren Road and Nanchuan West Road) with an area of 189.96 mu, a building area of 220,000 square meters, 2,200 authorized beds, 2,768 employees, 47 clinical departments, and 9 medical technology departments. The hospital holds 3 National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects (General Surgery, Oncology, Cardiovascular Medicine) and 15 Provincial Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects, with strong capabilities in General Surgery, Oncology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Hematology, Hydatid Disease, High-Altitude Medicine, and Hepatobiliary Surgery. In April 2023, the hospital jointly established the High-Altitude Disease Specialty Ward with the Qinghai University High-Altitude Medicine Research Center, integrating Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Hematology, Neurology, and Medical Imaging Center to provide specialized diagnosis and treatment for high-altitude reaction, high-altitude heart disease, high-altitude pulmonary edema, and other high-altitude-specific diseases. As the main unit of the China Medical Team to Burundi, the hospital has sent 21 batches totaling 459 medical personnel to Burundi since 1987, making it an important force in China's foreign medical aid efforts. In July 2025, the hospital joined the cross-provincial civil-military integrated medical consortium of Xijing Hospital of Air Force Medical University, promoting high-altitude medicine transformation and Tibetan medicine collaboration. Professor Gerili, Director of the High-Altitude Medicine Research Center, is an internationally renowned expert in high-altitude medicine, and the Internal Medicine (High-Altitude Medicine direction) has doctoral degree authorization.
